Strasburg, PA - Canon EOS 5D Mark II - While we were on one of the Strasburg Railroad Train Rides, I asked my daughter, Rebecca, a professional photographer and former owner of the Canon I was handing her, to check the settings we were waiting for the train engine to reverse position so that we can get back. Anyway, I, and the Amish gent in the back, became the subjects of her test shots (I was checking out the period lighting while waiting.)

That morning was a foggy one for me, but I imagined that on July 3, 1863, at 1 p.m., when approximately 300 canons on both sides let out on each other, it probably looked very similar to what I present here. It lasted short of 2 hours when, at 3 pm, 12,000 Confederate soldiers stepped out from Seminary Ridge onto the field in formation. This advance would later become known as Pickett’s Charge. Almost half did not return.

Gettysburg Battlefield, Gettysburg, PA - Canon EOS 5D Mark II - the Codori Farm - The Codori Farm is just south of Gettysburg on the east side of Emmitsburg Road. It was the scene of heavy fighting on July 2nd and was at the center of Pickett’s Charge on July 3rd. General Pickett remained near the farm buildings during the attack. The current farmhouse was there during the battle, although a two-story brick addition was added to its rear in 1877. The current barn is a replacement for the original that was torn down in 1882. It is estimated that over 500 Confederate soldiers were buried on the farm after the battle.
